Maintaining high-quality, expertly managed projects since 1995
Superior Concrete Constructors, Inc. was established in 1995 as a union concrete contractor employing Carpenters, Finishers, Laborers, and Operators. As the company grew, the number of projects increased, additional employees were hired, the type of concrete work expanded, the company moved from a basement office to a small office warehouse, and the first Somero Laser Screed was purchased. Early projects included work performed for Bristol Myers, Guardian Automotive, Matrixx Group, Mesker Park Zoo, Midwest Pet Foods, Deaconess Cross Pointe, Culley Power Plant, Atlas Van Lines, and Carhartt Distribution facility where SCC placed a Fmin 74 super flat floor. This extreme exact specification was required for high-speed autonomous robotic fork trucks with 60 foot rack heights.
In 2000 Kevin Effinger joined SCC as a Project Manager and operations moved from the small office warehouse to a 6,000 square-foot office building on the northwest side of Evansville. In addition to flatwork SCC began constructing industrial pit foundations, in both new construction and working manufacturing facilities, and tilt-up buildings. One of the first pits built was for FIA, a TMMI supplier. The first tilt-up project was a 40,000 square-foot insulated panel warehouse for the Foreign Trade Zone. Other tilt-ups built during this timeframe included Columbia Sportswear Distribution Center, St. Anthony School, and Berry Plastics. In 2004 Concrete Construction Magazine listed Superior Concrete Constructors, Inc. as the “Second Fastest Growing Concrete Company” in the United States. The time period from 2000 to 2010 was an exciting time for SCC as the company began to take control of the Tri-State flatwork and specialty concrete construction market and worked on projects for Evansville VA Clinic, Shoe Carnival Distribution Center, Shoe Carnival Headquarters, Vuteq, St. Mary’s Hospital, Eastland Mall, Graham Packaging, Ft. Campbell, and Farm Boy Foods. SCC also built radiation vaults for Chancellor Center for Oncology and Oncology Hematology Associates. Each project consisted of two rooms with eight foot thick concrete separating each room and a five foot thick concrete roof.
Continued Growth…
From 2011 to 2019 the company continued its growth in concrete construction by adding to its repertoire several wastewater treatment facilities, a salt storage building, stair and elevator towers, an anaerobic pond, a 3,800 foot-long storm water retention structure, and two 17,000 square-foot monolithic floors. One for Swonder Ice Rink and one for the Ford Center. Other notable projects during this time span include Costco Wholesale, Meijer, Fresh Tyme Market, Academy Sports and Outdoors, PGP International, Becks Hybrids, Golden Rule Insurance, Valero Energy, Warehouse Services Inc., Encompass Health, Diversity Vuteq, FedEx, Farbest Foods, Schnucks, Duke Energy, Deaconess Health Systems, Ascension St. Vincent Orthopedic Hospital, Azteca Milling, Dayton Freight Lines, American Fuji Seal, Bootz Manufacturing, Continental Tire, Walmart Supercenter, TaylorMade Golf Company, ICM, and Ross Dress for Less.
